2023 밀라노 디자인위크
마르셀 반더스, 엘레나 살미스트라로, 멘디니등을 포함한 세계적인 디자인 거장들과 나전칠기의 고장 한국 통영의 자개 장인과의 협업을 통한 자개테이블 전시 ‹Mother-of-pearl Tables Exhibition›가 오는 2023년 4월 18일부터 4월 23일까지 밀라노 디자인 위크 기간동안 밀라노 트리엔날레 디자인 미술관에서 진행될 예정입니다.
본 전시에서 선보이는 자개 테이블 작품은 한국 통영의 자개 장인과 여섯 명의 세계적인 디자이너들이 각자의 해석으로 자개라는 전통의 재료를 탐구해 제작될 프로젝트입니다. 전통의 자개와 세계의 디자이너가 만나 전통적인 재료인 자개가 동시대에 맞는 디자인 제품으로 재탄생 되어, 밀라노 디자인 미술관에서 선보일 예정입니다.

2023 Milan Design Week
Duson Gallery Seoul, an art and design gallery founded in 1977 in Seoul (South Korea) with the mission of promoting Korean crafts in the world, takes part for the first time in Milan Design Week with an intercultural project that combines the age-old South Korean tradition of mother-of-pearl with contemporary design.
The exhibition Mother-of-Pearl Tables, presented at Triennale Milano, reflects the encounter between East and West through the gallery’s collaboration with six internationally acclaimed designers, Alessandro Mendini, Elena Salmistraro, Marcel Wanders, Marco Zanuso Jr, Stefano Giovannoni and Younghee Cha, who were asked to create coffee tables of forceful artistic impact interpreting Jagae (mother-of-pearl), a material that embodies the essence of oriental crafts and culture. The objects, in a limited edition of only 9 pieces per model, were realized by Deokgun Jang and Gyesoon Kang, master artisans working in the region of Tongyeong in Korea, renowned for the production and crafting of mother-of-pearl.

두손갤러리 소개
1977년 창립한 두손갤러리는 고미술과 현대미술, 디자인, 공간구성을 아우르며 한국 근현대 미술 작가들과 더불어 세계적인 디자이너들과 함께 협업해 왔습니다. 2015년에는 한국 작가 최병훈의 뉴욕 개인전과 디자인 마이애미/바젤 전시와 2022년 전광영 작가의 베니스 비엔날레 전시를 기획하는 등의 한국 작가들의 세계화를 추진 하고 있으며, 알레산드로 멘디니, 멤피스 그룹 등의 디자인 무브먼트들을 꾸준히 한국에서 선보이고 있습니다. 이번 2023년 밀라노 디자인 위크 기간동안 한국의 전통을 세계적인 디자이너와의 협업을 통하여 동서양의 조화, 과거와 현재의 융합으로 문화적 가치를 알리고자 합니다.
DUSON GALLERY
Duson Gallery, founded in 1977 in Seoul, South Korea, focuses on antique and contemporary art, design and spa>al composition, collaborating with modern and contemporary Korean artists and outstanding designers on the international scene. The gallery organized a solo show of the Korean artist Byeong-Hoon Choi in New York and at Design Miami/Art Basel in 2015, and presented the artist Chun Kwang Young in a collateral event of the Venice Biennale in 2022. Duson Gallery has actively promoted design culture in South Korea, showcasing outstanding movements like the Memphis Group and exceptional designers like Alessandro Mendini. During Milan Design Week 2023, the gallery will illustrate the Korean tradition of mother-of-pearl in collaboration with six international designers in the aim of creating a cultural bridge between East and West and emphasizing the bond between past and present.
