신영아
신영아는 회화와 애니메이션을 전공한 예술가다. 그러나 수작업, 드로잉, 움직임 등을 특히 좋아해 목공예 작업에 이를 녹여내는 작업을 주로 하고 있다. 수작업으로 나무를 깎고 직접 색을 칠하여 다양한 블록 형태를 활용해 흥미로운 사물을 만들어낸다. 그중 ‘The Stacked_Pagoda’ 시리즈는 한국 사찰의 전통 석탑에서 영감받아 시작된 작업이다. 블록을 쌓아 다양한 형태를 만드는 방식에 착안해 나무 블록을 금속 봉에 결합하고 재구성한다. 이미 제시된 형태에 얽매이지 않고, 상황에 따라 형태를 재배치하고 배색을 달리하는 등 실제 사용할 때 변주할 수 있다는 즐거움이 큰 작품이다. 특히 이번 작품은 기존 원형 블록에 사각 블록들을 추가해 전체적인 형태에 리듬감을 더하는 등 석탑을 현대적으로 표현한다. 특히 한국 석탑의 고유한 특징, 즉 홀수와 짝수로 표현되는 음양의 조화, 석탑 내부를 채우지 않는 공간의 미학, 해체가 가능한 구조학적 형태 등을 재해석함으로써 조화와 염원의 마음을 담아낸다.
Youngah Shin
Having majored in painting and animation, Young-ah Shin has a penchant for handicrafts, drawing, and movement, which she incorporates into her woodwork. The artist carves wood by hand and paints the wooden blocks of various shapes to create interesting objects. , Shin draws inspiration from Stacked series In her traditional stone pagodas found in Korean temples. Focusing on the ways in which blocks are stacked to give a unique shape to the overall form, Shin combines wooden blocks with metal rods to produce a distinctive structure. The result is a dynamic piece that offers great pleasure in its versatility; the blocks can be rearranged and the color scheme can be altered to suit various circumstances, breaking free from a fixed, predetermined form. Shin’s new work offers a contemporary interpretation of stone pagodas by incorporating square blocks into the existing circular ones, adding a distinct rhythm to the overall shape. Her reinterpretation of the unique characteristics of Korean stone pagodas, such as the odd and even number principle symbolizing yin and yang harmony, the beauty of negative space created by the empty interior, as well as its dismantlable structure, captures the essence of harmony and aspiration.

경희대학교 미술교육학과 서양화전공 학사학위를, 영국 킹스턴대학교 일러스트레이션&애니메이션전공 석사학위를 취득하였다. 2017년~2020년 ‹공예트렌드페어›(코엑스, 서울)에 꾸준히 참여하며 다양한 작품활동을 선보였고, 2018년 ‹CRAFT RETURN›(KCDF갤러리, 서울), 2019년 ‹코펀 국제가구박람회›(킨텍스, 일산), 2022년 ‹한국공예가협회 x KOFURN›(킨텍스, 일산), 2022년 ‹한국공예, 창의적 여정›(금보성아트센터, 서울) 등 다수의 단체전에 참여하였다. 2017년 KCDF 스타상품 개발공모 작가로 선정되었으며, 2018년까지 후속 지원을 받았다. 2019년 서울 리빙디자인페어 리빙디자인어워드 협업, 2019년 삼성 갤럭시노트10 광고 프로젝트 협업을 진행한 바 있다. 작품은 제일기획에 소장되어 있다.

Youngah Shin (1973-)
Young-ah Shin received her B.F.A. in Western Painting from the Department of Fine Arts Education at Kyunghee University, Korea, and her M.F.A. in Illustration Animation from Kingston University, UK. Shin participated in the Craft Trend Fair at COEX, Seoul, from 2017 to 2020 and exhibited her works at numerous group exhibitions, including CRAFT RETURN at KCDF Gallery, Seoul (2018); KOFURN at KINTEX, Ilsan (2019); Korean Crafts Council x KOFURN at KINTEX, Ilsan (2022); and Korean Craft, Creative Journey at Geumboseong Art Center, Seoul (2022). In 2017, Shin was selected as the winner of the KCDF Craft & Design Star Product Development Project and received follow-up support until 2018. She collaborated with the Seoul Living Design Fair’s Living Design Award in 2019 and also participated in the Samsung Galaxy Note 10 advertisement project in the same year. Her work is housed in the collection of Cheil Worldwide.
