전북무형문화재 옻칠장 이수자인 유남권의 옻칠 종이는 전통 기법인 지태 칠기를 활용해 종이에 일정한 붓질로 의도된 흔적을 남긴 회화적 오브제이다. 닥종이의 거친 질감 위로 붓칠을 반복하면서 옻색과 종이 질감의 두께가 층위를 이루면서 작가만의 독창적 세계를 펼친다. 그는 전통 소재의 실존적 가치와 독창적 공예 기법으로 ‘하이앤드 월 페이퍼’라는 새 영역을 개척했다.
