얇게 저민 대나무 껍질을 색색으로 물들여 기하학적 무늬로 엮은 국가무형문화재 제53호 채상(彩箱)은 조선시대에 옷·장신구·침선구를 담아두는 기물로, 사대부뿐만 아니라 서민층의 혼수품으로 애용됐다. 대나무의 매끈한 표층에 담백한 색감에서 화려한 문양이 물들어 천의 얼굴을 가진 채상은 우리 곁의 사물로 자리하기 위해서 인고의 시간을 감내하고 있다.
Chaesang, designated as the 53rd National Intangible Cultural Heritage, is a container that intertwines geometric patterns on thinly sliced bamboo bark dyed in various colors. Originating from the Joseon Dynasty, Chaesang was used to store clothing, accessories, and sewing tools, cherished not only by the aristocracy but also by the commoners as wedding gifts. Adorned with intricate patterns on the smooth surface of bamboo, the Chaesang, with its simple yet vibrant colors, endures the test of time to take its place as an object by our side.
